8/13/2009 Gazette
My column in this week’s Gazette laments the rotten economic cards we’ve been dealt generally, and talks specifically about how it affected me.
Along with that well-written tome, while reading this week’s Middleboro Gazette and it struck me that there seems to be a lot of entertainment options going on lately. I don’t know if this is some weird side effect of the poor economy or what.
Soule Homestead – Every Saturday night, Soule Homestead has music for it’s Summer Concert Series. The next one features Frank Albani opening for Bill Mulligan at 6:00 PM.
Riverside – Aug 27-28 brings a dinner show with Scott Record at the revamped Riverside which is looking to do functions and banquets.
The Flat Iron Cafe – Appearing this Saturday is grammy nominated singer Cheryle Correa
Blues Festival – Aug. 29 at Battis Field featuring a variety of artists.
Somethin’s Brewin – Singer/songwriters Chuck Durang(Aug 14) and Chris Wilhelm(Aug 21). Both events run from 7-9. They have a lotta stuff going on.
Cafe Milano – Open mic from “Arts From The Heart” – 2nd Thursday of each month. AFTH also features poetry on the first Wednesday of the month.
Nemasket River Productions has benefit on Sep. 4 and a new play coming up October.
I’m sure there’s far more going on, that’s just the stuff I saw in the Gazette. We should all be patronizing these local entertainment offerings.
Don't forget the Rochester Country Fair. Especially the bonfire.

Culture is usually the best option in the times of economic woes.
It has been a proven factor that to feed the heart and mind with lovely music, art and positive
thinking actually is the best thing for bad times and isn't a very costly thing to do.
