Breadstick recipe
Had some friends over last weekend and tried these breadsticks. The recipe is a conglomeration of various recipes I saw on the Internet – simplified. I served them as an appetizer – the kids(and adults) went beserk over these and demanded a second batch after dinner.
Breadstick dough ingredients
- 3/4 cup water – lukewarm
- 3-4 oz honey
- 3 tbsp butter
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 cups flour
- 1 tsp yeast
The dough is very like a pizza dough.
Topping ingredients
- 3-4 oz olive oil
- 5-6 cloves crushed garlic
- Parmesan cheese – regular spaghetti type
- course ground sea salt
Directions
- Add ingredients in order to bread machine – use dough cycle. My sunbeam takes 90 minutes.
- Remove and shape into desired sized bread sticks – say 3/4 inches in diameter and 6-8 inches long – whatever you want. If the dough is too sticky to work with, coat your hands with flour.
- Place on baking sheet greased with olive oil and covered with corn meal to prevent sticking.
- Crush 4-5 cloves garlic into 3-4 ounces of olive oil – brush over bread sticks.
- Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and coarse sea salt
- Cook in preheated oven at 350 on center rack until done – around 15 minutes depending on the size.
These were super easy to make and require very little prep time. Yes it takes 90 minutes to make the dough but only 2 minutes to prepare it. I would expect that you could make the dough quickly by mixing the honey into warm water and adding the yeast for 15 minutes until it starts to foam – then add butter, salt, and flour and run the machine just long enough to mix it.
After the dough is made, it takes like 5 minutes to shape the sticks and another 5 to crush the garlic, brush, sprinkle, etc. Very easy.
