Bumpkin on Coffee Shop Talk – 8/27/2008

Here is the audio from my appearance on the radio yesterday. It can be downloaded here or listened to below. We discussed my new column, town meeting, voter participation and other topics.

We had a bunch of pro-casino callers making transparent attempts to make trouble. It was quite humorous. This will be an ongoing thing – there are many pro-casino people who have no interest in hearing my words. They are getting their news from pro-casino sources, and have no intention of reading the source information. On the flip side, we had some anti-casino callers who had a much more positive message(that had nothing to do with me).

Here is the audio. Click the mustache to play.

Good show! As always you conducted yourself with grace and style. I think Adam handled the “trouble” callers quite well and I actually found myself laughing over Victoria’s comment about having the BOS sing for votes! That was too funny…

I don’t get the Gazette so I was not able to read your article but can easily have someone pdf it to me. Can’t wait to read it.

Bumpkin, just read your excellent first column in the Gazette! Wonderful writing – and I’m so glad you tackled the Internet as one of your first subjects. Can’t wait to read more!

As for the show – honestly I can’t handle a hour of Bondage. If you broke it into bytes, maybe I could manage a bite.

    Keep up the good work!

    Gladys

I just listened to the broadcast and am disapointed that so much time was spent discussing anonymous posting. I own a business. Do you really think I would offer my opinion if I was forced to give you my real name?
That being said, one single post mentioned the Bonds’ daughter.
The apropriate thing to do would have been to request its removal instead of Mr. Bond creating the havoc he did.
Mr. Bond actively posted on another blasphemous site and has no problems with some of the attacks on that site? Did he request that those posts be removed? Did he request that anonymous posters not be accepted? And is he protesting the current site? Can you associate yourself with a trash site, as he did and still be credible?

I almost wasn’t going to publish the last comment except that it has a valid point.

Much wrong was done on both sides and if we all keep dredging up the same old stuff year in and year out, things will never progress.

Bellicose Bumpkin, my comments were certainly not intended to inflame passions any further, but merely to point out that to listen to Mr. Bond or Mrs. Bond suggest that it was more one side than the other is inappropriate and unacceptable. I agree that we need to move on and we need to address important issue other than the elephant, but let’s move on respectfully without the undertone of ‘your side did this’ that I heard from the Bonds. We need to recognize that dissent and constructive criticism is required for a representative government to work.
And if each of us works to express our opposition more respectfully, we can learn to appreciate that sometimes our disagreements foster greater solutions.
My appreciation for differing opinions in no way endorses a certain forum that needs to be condemned.
I can only suggest that objectionable posts be submitted for removal to: topixadmin@topix.net
Is it time for each of us to put our money where our mouth is so to speak and clean up the toxins?

    lara,

I think we’re all out of the loop. The coop sounded like a pretty good idea as described by V. I’d welcome more information about ways to support local farms.

Bond now sounds like he’s trying to be the “voice of reason”.

How ironic, where was this “voice” a year ago when we all needed him?

… He’s seriously concerned about anonymous comments on your blog???

Mark, your sincerity is so clearly audible…keep up the fabulous work.

    BB,

With all due respect, I disagree completely with you on that one.
